At the start of the year, I set out to read more books. I haven’t done it exactly how I wanted but we are making progress.

One of the books I am currently reading that just came out is, “Straight Shooter.” It was written by ESPN Analyst, and host of the First-Take sports show Stephen A. Smith.

The memoir about his life has many lessons to it. When I finish reading it I may do a deep business lesson on it.

One lesson though I can’t hold off sharing is something he said that he applies to every aspect of his life. But it has been most beneficial to his professional career.

He accredited much of his work ethic to the passing of his older brother. In his memory and wanting to support his family is the force behind why he pushes himself to heights very few have reached.

I won’t spoil the full story but his brother passed away in a very tragic way. His brother always told Stephen A that he would become an ESPN analyst. But not just one, the greatest one yet.

Many may argue that but you can’t ignore the tenacity he brings to any show he’s on if you watch that…
