I watched an interview with Huey P Newton a few weeks ago.
For those who don’t know, he and Bobby Seale are the creators of the Black Panther Party.
While studying Huey P Newton, I came up with this question: If someone can create positive change amidst some of the worst times in history, then why can’t we do the same when our opportunities are far greater and with better technology?
Huey and Bobby started the BPP after a lot of police brutality had taken place in Oakland, CA.
Huey was a constant student of the world, which is why he was able to beat many of the powers that be at their own game. One of the early stories about the BPP was their decision to police a stop light and direct traffic.
It had been broken for some time, leading to kids walking to school getting hit by traffic.
Needless to say, men with guns in the street got the attention of the police quickly.
The situation didn’t escalate to any bullets being fired or harm being done. When the police arrived, Huey quickly advised them that no laws were being broken by what they were doing, as evidenced by the law book they had on hand.
